We started racing on Saturday.

Morning light on the practice lake. We had to get over to the venue very early, because Harold was racing in the first event of the competition. It was the finest time of the day.

Every race has multiple heats, with as many as 9 boats in the heat, each in it's own buoyed lane. Another heat race starts every 3 minutes. We have to be queued up at the start area 30 minutes before race time, so there are sometimes over 100 boats in wait. We try to get on the water at least one hour prior to race time, so it's quite a scramble, especially as we are renting boats here at the yard. Just finding the boat and oar set can be a challenge.

Harold was in a coxed mens 4, and they pulled hard and had fun, but the results show that the competition is tough. Being out on the course first thing in the morning with the sun just up, sky clear, water flat, was very fine.

That was Harold's only race of the day.

Sue was in 2 races, a double and a womens 4, and did good. In the doubles race, she and Rhonnie pulled ahead of another boat right at the finish, and they also finished ahead of our other double in the race, with Lori L. and Tanya. They were not in the top competition, but felt real good about it.

I'll post this now, running out of time before the trip to the venue.
Sue had the early race start time this morning, but I will get over in time to see her race.
We will have to add more to this later. So much to tell, little time to do it.....
